Peter’s Dental Journey: From Damaged Smile to Fixed Bridge
When Peter contacted us, he sounded very upset. In Denmark, he had been told that restoring his smile would be too expensive and complicated. Due to lack of bone, he would only be able to get new teeth after 1–1.5 years, which was far too long and uncertain.
Based on the X-ray he sent us, the dentist could see that although the teeth needed to be removed, additional bone grafting would not be necessary if the treatment was carried out with immediate implants. The dentist therefore created a treatment plan with a cost estimate that Peter was happy with. We also scheduled an appointment for an initial examination. If everything matched the X-ray, the treatment could begin immediately.
Initial Examination
When Peter arrived in Budapest, our taxi driver was waiting for him and drove him to his hotel, which we had booked just a few meters from the clinic. The next day, Margit, our Danish-speaking patient assistant, met Peter at the hotel and accompanied him to the clinic for a thorough examination.
The examination showed that several teeth were in poor condition, some were missing entirely, and the remaining ones were worn and loose, making it difficult for him to chew and smile confidently. Peter’s jawbone was significantly weakened, and there was not enough bone for traditional implants without extensive bone grafting.
After reviewing the treatment options, Peter confirmed the dentist’s recommendation of immediate implants, which are suitable for jaws with reduced bone volume. This method allowed the implants to be inserted right after the tooth extractions, greatly shortening both treatment time and healing.
Treatment – Phase 1: Tooth Extractions and Implants Under General Anesthesia
The day before surgery, Peter had blood tests and an ECG taken, which are required for the anesthesiologist. Everything could be done quickly in the same building as the clinic, allowing Peter to rest for the remainder of the day.
The surgery under general anesthesia took only a couple of hours. All remaining teeth were removed, and 18 immediate implants were placed (10 in the upper jaw and 8 in the lower jaw). Peter felt no pain, and after the procedure he was taken to a recovery room where he could sleep peacefully. When he woke up, he was driven back to his hotel.
During the following six days, Peter was able to relax and explore Budapest. On the 7th day, he received his temporary fixed bridge, allowing him to eat normally, smile, and speak without feeling self-conscious about missing teeth.
Treatment – Phase 2: Permanent Bridge with Porcelain Crowns
After a healing period of six months, Peter returned to us. The temporary fixed prosthesis was removed, and he received a permanent bridge with porcelain crowns on both the upper and lower jaw. The bridges were carefully adjusted — both functionally (correct bite, chewing ability, and comfort) and aesthetically (color, shape, natural appearance).
The result was a permanent solution that could handle everyday use while providing him with a beautiful, natural smile.
